Richard and Cindy Tymko are recognized as top professional teachers in North America. They have won male and female top teacher awards within Alberta and numerous US dance events including Los Angeles, Orlando, Portland, Las Vegas, San Jose and Nashville. Several of their amateur students are World Grand Champions at Newcomer, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Showcase levels. Over the past 15 years, Richard and Cindy have also coached couples ranging from juniors to adults who also attained World Championship status. Check out the "Champions Corner" to see familiar faces in the dance community both amateur and professional who have trained with Richard and Cindy.
Richard and Cindy began their dance partnership in the swing world dancing in the Classic Swing Division. They have trained with several of the top Canadian and US coaches in country, swing and ballroom. In the late 90's, they danced at swing dance events including the Portland Dance Festival, Sacramento's Capital Swing Dancers, The North West Pacific Swing Dance Championships and the US Open. They added country dances to their routines and competed in Showcase Division I placing 5th at the 1997 UCWDC World Championships in Disneyland.
Richard and Cindy have also choreographed and coached local country dance teams in Calgary. In 1997 they formed their own Rhythms Dance Team and competed in the World Championships in Nashville placing 3rd. The following year they pushed the team and encouraged the members to work even harder. The result was an astonishing 1st place win in January 1999 at the UCWDC World Championships in San Antonio Texas out of a total of 22 teams. This dedicated hard working team attained Canada's still only 1st Place Grand Championship in the Team Division.
The Tymko's credits also include working as choreographers, coaches, and dancers in the Nora Roberts "Montana Skies" movie directed by Mike Robe starring Laura Mennell, John Corbett, and Diane Ladd as well as Janette Oke's "When Calls the Heart" movie directed by Michael Landon Jr. starring Maggie Grace and Stephen Amell.
Richard and Cindy have focussed their talents on coaching and teaching and take pride in their students' successes with social dance skills and competitive dance. Their group classes focus on having a good time while students of all ages learn timing, rhythm, footwork, and posture. The teaching strengths of this dynamic couple make their classes enjoyable while participants appreciate being in the hands of dance experts.
In August of 2007 Richard and Cindy were blessed with the birth of their baby girl Isabelle who already shows signs of a love and talent for dance. She has attended dance competitions since she was two months old and patiently awaits her turn to dance with Dad on the dance floor. Isabelle loves imitating her mom by dancing across the floor in Cindy's group ballet classes. Isabelle's biggest decision is whether her first competition costume will be pink or blue.
About Richard
Richard Tymko was born in Edmonton Alberta and began his dance career as a break dancing teenager. Later, while living in Yellowknife, he became interested in the completely opposite dance style of ballroom and latin. On his return to Edmonton, Richard taught country and western styles of couples dance at local bars and community centres.
Embracing his Ukrainian heritage, Richard also loved traditional folk dance and was a member of the professional Edmonton based folk dance group "Vinok". The troupe travels across Canada and the world performing over 40 World Dances. Richard has since returned to Vinok as a choreographer and expert in country dance as part of their World Dance show.
Richard moved to Calgary to further his dance career and has become known as an innovative, technically founded choreographer. Since moving to Calgary, he found his true love and dance partner and is a certified judge on the United Country and Western Dance Council circuit.
About Cindy
Cindy Tymko (nee Anderson) began her lifelong love of dance at the age of four. Since she was too young to attend kindergarten her parents enrolled her in ballet classes and added weekly tap and jazz lessons the following year. Through to her teenage years, Cindy studied, progressed and completed several dance examinations in the syllabuses of Al Gilbert, RAD, BATD and the CDTA. She competed at the Calgary and the Edmonton Dance Festivals, performed solos, duets, groups and large productions. After successfully auditioning for the Young Canadians, she trained with world re-known choreographers and teachers and performed nightly at the Grandstand Show as part of the Calgary Stampede.
Cindy began her teaching career by accepting a teaching position at a Calgary dance studio. She taught at a Drumheller dance school for five years as well as both Calgary school boards. She loves sharing her expertise and dance passion with anyone who is willing to learn. She prides herself in the ability to teach dancers of all ages and boasts her youngest student as 2 and the oldest student at 97.
Cindy was introduced to the country and swing styles of dance through friends who talked her into going to the local dance hall "Dusty's". As a result, she expanded her dance experience by partnering and competing as a dance couple. She later found the love of her life, Richard, who shares her passion for dancing and the rest is history. Cindy is also a certified judge on the United Country and Western Dance Council circuit.
